Live by the AK, die by the AK

A marginal night. I dropped about $1200-1300 in buyins but got fifth in the 8 pm $100 to make up for it. I lost the 100r on back to back flips, one of which was my AA vs QKs on a Qxx two spades flop allin on the flop. I lost the 150 on back to back flips as well, so I was pretty demoralized. Eventually, nothing was left but the 8 pm $100, and I had just over 2x the starting stack when the following hand went down:

This hand propelled me to a reasonably sized stack. I then proceeded to get AK and AQ maybe a total of 12-14 times over the next couple of hours, enabling me to run my stack up quite a bit. I only had to win one or two of them as flips, the rest I just took down or was dominating. My first premium pair came with 10 people left, as I got KK on the big blind when someone had to desperation shove with K9d. That one somehow held.

At the final table, shaundeeb was on my left, making me take a very tight line throughout. I drew first blood when I busted Johnster in 9th with my AK vs his AJ allin pre when he desperation shoved from the cutoff. Then I raised with QQ, got called, the ace flopped, and I paid off two small bets on the turn and river to see him show me AQd... bad play by me, I should have at least been able to fold the river. Another one busted, and with seven left I was the short stack, so I took K6o on my cutoff (when the blinds were the other two short stacks and shaundeeb was on the button) and moved in with it for about eight big blinds. I got called by the sb who had AQo, but I luckily spiked a six on the turn to stay alive and bust him. Someone else busted somehow, then with five left I picked up TT on the cutoff. I open raised, shaundeeb made a small reraise, I came back over the top for the rest ,and he called with AK. Flop rags, turn brick, river A. Thanks a lot Lee.

Overall, a good day... at least I made up for my 0-fer sunday, which gets very expensive. AK got me really far in this tournament, then turned out to be my demise at the end. Can't wait to get back in there tonight.
